Tuners, muscles, exotic! If you have been around cars for a long time you know what these words mean. These are not just random words that have absolutely no meaning. They describe three types of performance cars . This is how they are different.

Tuners are cars that people tend to tune or customize. These cars tend to be mostly Japanese domestic cars like Honda’s ,Toyota’s ,and Nissans just to name a few. What people do is they buy a Japanese car, pop into a car customization shop, purchase performance parts like turbos ,NOS etc, body kits, rims, and spoilers. Some people go as far as putting neon lights and decals on their cars. These cars tend to be used by street racers around the world. The trick to making these cars go fast is finding a balance between power and grip. Now if the tuning is done properly then the result is a masterpiece of speed but get it wrong and you’ll end up with a car that looks and handles so bad that you will not want to see or drive it . These cars were used in movies like “2 fast 2 furious” and games like”Need for Speed.” Some examples of tuners are Honda Integra , Toyota Supra , Mitsubishi Lancer , Mazda RX-7 and the legendary Nissan Skyline GTR R32.

Next, we have the muscle cars. A muscle car has a V8 engine and is made for high performance driving. It is able to accelerate very quickly but has poor handling .The muscle car era began in the 60’S. Muscle cars normally have two doors and some have four doors . These cars tend to be used for drag racing on weekends but for daily commute on weekdays. In fact car companies created drag racing versions of their muscle cars by stripping out all non- essential parts, making them lightweight and by putting in a competition spec engine thus making them faster than the normal spec muscle cars. Examples of these cars are the Dodge Charger, Plymouth GTO, Boss302 Ford Mustang, Z28 Chevrolet Camaro and Buick GSX. Some people bolt on superchargers and blower to the engine to increase power.

Last but not least, we have the exotics. If you’re all about speed then these cars are for you. These cars have a lot of horse power under the hood and are meant to be driven hard. Some have 500, others up to 1000 and cost anywhere from RM 1 million to RM 5 million. These cars can get from 0 to 100 km/p in less than four seconds. The body of these cars are made of lightweight materials like aluminium, fiberglass or carbon fibre. These cars tend to be two-seaters. They have a high power engine like a V10 or a V12. Having a big engine means they are fast — very fast but this means they consume a lot of petrol. They are normally used on the track because it is impossible to drive an exotic car the way it is supposed to be driven on the road unless you want to be pulled over by the police. Some people Examples of such cars are the Ferrari 458 Italia, the Lamborghini Aventador , the Koenigsegg Agera , the Bugatti Veyron and the Pagani Huayra just to name a few .

So there you go! I hope you enjoy reading this article and I hope you now know the difference between a tuner car, a muscle car and an exotic car. Join me next time for more petrol head fun.
